Tasty Momos Recipe

Here is a simple recipe for making steamed momos, a popular dumpling dish from the Himalayan region:

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil

  • Approximately 1/2 cup of water

  • For the filling:

  • 1 pound of ground chicken, pork, or beef

  • 1 cup of finely chopped onions

  • 2 cloves of minced garlic

  • 2 tablespoons of finely chopped ginger

  • 1 cup of finely chopped cabbage

  • 1/2 cup of finely chopped carrots

  • 1/2 cup of finely chopped bell peppers

  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the oil, using your hands to mix until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add enough water to form a smooth dough. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  2. Make the filling: In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, onions, garlic, ginger, cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. Roll out the dough: Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle, about 3-4 inches in diameter.

  4. Fill the momos: Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating and pinching the edges together to seal the momo.

  5. Steam the momos: Place the momos in a steamer basket and steam for 10-15 minutes, or until fully cooked.

  6. Serve: Serve the hot momos with your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy your delicious and comforting steamed momos!
